I have been to Cape Town many times - as a matter of fact, just prior to this visit I was there for a week long trip just three weeks before! But I'll never tire of this city or the region!
Started off with my usual stop in Camps Bay for lunch at Zenzero - and by "usual" I mean as soon as I step off the plane and the weather looks good. Face it, it is Cape Town. So if the weather is good, make the most of it! At Zenzero had the usual bottle of bubbly and for dessert, the chocolate fondant. It is perfect and never fails to please :-)
Next day, I drive to Durbanville to pick up my oldest and dearest friend for lunch at De Grendel winery. Food is delicious with a great view of Table Bay Mountain.
On the Monday, the day starts off a bit overcast. The solution in Cape Town is to check the weather forecast for the region. Sometimes it just takes a drive to Hermanus to find the sun again. This time round, I head off up the West Coast stopping off at Melkbosstrand and then Paternoster for lunch. The Voorstrand restaurant is quite rustic but the seafood is good, you can't get closer to the beach and during the week it is quiet and peaceful. It is a bit of a drive though but the West Coast is worth a visit.
Next day, I'm at Longridge winery between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. Be sure to book ahead. The food is fantastic as is the Chardonnay. You can even sit on the couches on the "stoep" or verandah and enjoy the near perfect view and peaceful setting. Don't be surprised to see a chef coming out to pick herbs or vegetables from their nearby veggie gardens.
At the end of a long but fantastic day, I stop off at Sea Point for a walk and to watch the sun go down. The ocean views are beautiful on a calm day and the vibe is busy but relaxed as everyone is out running, skate boarding, roller blading, playing soccer etc on the green or the board walk.
Last day is the Waterfront which includes lunch at the Harbour House, some retail therapy and an afternoon trip on a catamaran. Ocean is as calm as a lake and I couldn't have asked for a better last day before I head home. By the way, at the Harbour House, try the Masala dusted calamari starter. Delicious!
